Bassday Mononofu 70S
The Bassday Mononofu 70S is a minnow that has some very interesting properties that we can take advantage of both in freshwater and saltwater fishing.
The Bassday Mononofu 70S was born as a sinking lure for trout, the Japanese have designed it to fish for good sized trout in medium flow rivers, but if we look at its features and investigate a little deeper, we will find details that we will like, even for stalking sea bass, sea bream and other sea predators.
First of all, the size, seventy centimetres is neither very little nor too much, in fact, in most cases, it can match the hatch and as a consequence, we have a very all-round lure to use with light spinning tackle.
The drop of the Bassday Mononofu 70S is horizontal, like a weak fish that is carried away by the current and tends to develop a very attractive rolling, in addition the bib is perfectly shaped to withstand the current of a medium sized river, but it doesn't stick and allows the retrieve to continue flowing. If we transfer this to the sea we find ourselves with a very opportune lure for dealing with skimmers and side currents, for example a river mouth with an ebbing or full tide, a stone slab that is covered during the tide and stirs up all the pasture that is in its path or a simple breaker, covered in white foam and whipped by the current.
As you can see in the photos, the body is plump and has a fairly large air chamber which is what creates the rolling in the fall, here again we have a way to take advantage of this lure in the river pools, where the current slackens and the trout stick to the bottom behind structure, or in a reservoir looking for perch and barbel in relatively shallow water. In the end it weighs only 7.7 grams and the drop, with its buoyancy, is going to be very sweet, perfect for wary fish that are spooked by their own shadow. Now, when we use the Bassday Mononofu 70S in the sea we will encounter a new and interesting scenario because its fall will be even slower, as it will float better, and if we get for a moment into the scales of a fish that is patrolling a bay or hunting between the algae pockets of a river or a river mouth, we will understand that this minnow will present itself as an appetizing and very realistic snack, even if it falls in the melee of a foamer, with the bream that, before attacking a lure, x-rays it. However, if we decide to change the trebles - which, by the way, are #8 - for saltwater-resistant and perhaps a little more robust, we may be able to ensure the same behaviour in the sea as in freshwater.
We have been talking a lot about the Bassday Mononofu 70S, a lure that we like, it is a new product from the Japanese brand and as the market evolves we find this type of minnow always more interesting and certainly effective for spin fishing in freshwater and in the sea.
