After watching that Seven Seas DVD with the giant 100Kg+ dogtooth tuna blink.gif ....I am very keen to try fishing that same area.

Has anybody got any details to help me plan a trip:-

1. Boat contact?
2. Which island does the boat operate from?
3. What is the best time of year to fish this area?

Any advice would be appreciated!!!

Anybody else fancy doing this trip?

Cheers

Dave

Dave, check Sevenseas web page and get in contact with them if you are interested in that trip. I know the boat they used is quite expensive but maybe you can share it with various people.

Hi Nicola

Thanks for that I have already been in touch with Hidekatsu-san from Seven Seas and was planning a trip there in September....

Before I confirmed with them, we actually had a trip out of Taiwan where we caught plenty of good sized doggies.....so have since decided that there was no point in spending all that money and time, when the fishing here is almost, if not as good as, the fishing over there! wink.gif

We have another trip for doggies this weekend - hopefully they turn up again in large numbers! smile.gif

If I am still based in Asia next year I will try a trip with Seven Seas!

Cheers

Dave

Korean jiggers made several trips to the Northern Mariana with Matsutani San of the Seven Seas.
According to their information, the boat leaves from Siphan and goes up to Agrihan, northern part of Northern Mariana directly and comes down while checking many spots. The trip to Agrihan from Siphan takes 22- 25 hours since the boat cruises at 10 knot.

They had their best trip in early July, when it was very hot.

I watched the Seven Seas' video of the 104kg dogtooth at Northern Marianas. That boat doesn't look comfortable for any kind of sport fishing, does it?

Hi Ksong

Thanks for the information - much appreciated!

Just out of curiosity what is a typical catch on the boat during one trip? I know it is difficult to estimate but from your friend's experience - how many dogs are actually caught on a typical trip?

I may be wrong but after watching the DVD I got the impression it had been pieced together from a few trips??

My favourite part in the DVD is where the guy is so tired he can't pump the rod, can't turn the handle and ends up just hugging the rod!!! biggrin.gif

Love the photos!

Cheers

They said they fished Agrihan, Pagan Island and Alamagam/ Guguan and had lots of action with dogtooth tuna along with GT, small yellowfin tuna, shark, grouper, etc. On a particular trip in early July, 2004, they had 93 kg, 75 kg dogtooth tuna and 53 kg GT. The 93 kg dogtooth was caught at Pagan Island.

I believe guys going to Northern Mariana are more interested in catching trophy fish than catching lots of fish. I am going to fish out of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in late Aug. I go to PV for trophy yellowfin tuna ranging from 200 lbs to 350 lbs, not for quantity. I plan to jig at least 8 hours nonstop a day for three days and I am happy if I have a couple of hookup with a monster yellowfin for three days.

Ksong,

be careful with the ladies in Puerto Vaillarta! there are a lot of "bailarinas" and they are known to take all your energy and all your money and get you totally drunk, so that the next day all you are left with is enough strength and cash to go cacth some squid from the roks ... laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
